Presentation Title:

The Neuroinflammatory Bridge: Linking Neurological and Mental Disorders

Abstract

Understanding how neuroinflammation contributes to the complex interplay between neurological and mental health disorders. Neuroinflammation has emerged as a key factor in the pathogenesis of various neurological and mental health disorders. Immune cells and cytokines play a crucial role in promoting inflammation in the brain, leading to neuronal damage and dysfunction. The molecular mechanisms underlying this connection are incompletely understood. Cytokines and immune cells can infiltrate the brain, activating microglia and astrocytes, which in turn release pro-inflammatory mediators that exacerbate neuroinflammation. This chronic inflammation can lead to synaptic dysfunction, neuronal loss, and ultimately, cognitive and behavioral impairments. To explore this further, we investigated the role of specific inflammatory mediators and signaling pathways involved in neuroinflammation. Our results reveal a significant correlation between neuroinflammatory markers and various disorders, including depression, anxiety, and neurodegenerative diseases. Notably, we identified novel inflammatory mediators that may contribute to disease progression. These findings shed light on the neuroinflammatory bridge, highlighting potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of neurological and mental health disorders. Furthermore, our study suggests that targeting neuroinflammation may be a promising strategy for preventing or treating these disorders, and warrants further investigation.
