Medi plus Hospital , NepalTitle: Changes in EKG in Patients with Spontaneous Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: A Cross-Sectional Study
Abstract
This
retrospective cross-sectional study conducted at Tribhuvan University Teaching
Hospital in 2019 aimed to assess the prevalence of electrocardiographic (ECG)
changes in non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) cases. Analyzing ECG
recordings from 45 patients, we found that 88.8% exhibited some form of ECG
abnormality, with the most common being QTc prolongation, T-wave abnormalities,
and bradycardia in 35.5%, 24.4%, and 24.4% of patients, respectively.
Additional observed changes included ST depression, large U-waves, atrial
fibrillation, and premature ventricular contractions. These findings highlight
the frequent occurrence of morphological and rhythm abnormalities in SAH
patients, potentially leading to diagnostic dilemmas and unnecessary
investigations, emphasizing the need for further research to determine the
clinical significance of these ECG changes and their correlation with patient
outcomes.
