Title: Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis in a young Filipino male adult presenting as Schizophrenia: A Case Report

Abstract

Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis is a relatively rare condition but is considered as the most common form of autoimmune encephalitis. It commonly presents with acute to subacute neuropsychiatric symptoms hence initially seen by psychiatrists. Differentiating Autoimmune Encephalitis from the spectrum of psychotic disorders at the onset of symptoms remains a challenge. We report a case of a 22-year-old Filipino male with history of Schizophrenia, in remission who presented with a constellation of neuropsychiatric symptoms. Cerebrospinal fluid results were positive for anti-NMDA encephalitis.
